Here is a list of some reported problems in Banner 9, along with suggestions to resolve them. This article is a live document and will be updated regularly. Keep checking back!


I am having trouble getting a Banner page to load or display. 

Here are some actions that may be able to solve this problem:

  • Clear browser cache and cookies
  • Update browser to most current version
  • Turn off ad blocking (could be an add-on or built-in depending on browser)
  • Use a Incognito/Private mode window to load the Banner page
  • Try a different browser brand (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge)

My display keeps freezing and/or I get logged out of Banner 9. 
Make sure your myGateway tab in your browser is closed to disable the inactivity timer. The myGateway tab has the nocccd.edu address as part of the title. 

Will the above solution work if I have multiple Banner 9 screens open? 
Yes. As long as the myGateway tab is closed, the inactivity timer will be disabled across all tabs/windows within the same browser as Banner 9.

But what if I need to have myGateway open for other work activity, such as using the Finance page? 
If you need to have myGateway active at the same time as Banner 9, open myGateway in a different browser. For example, if you are running Banner 9 in Chrome, open myGateway in Firefox.

I am getting an account expired status message when trying to start a job submission. What can I do?
You will need to perform a Banner database password change by following these steps:

Step 1: Go to the GUAPSWD page in Banner 9

Step 2: Enter your current Banner password in the Oracle password field.

Step 3: Enter a new password in the New Oracle Password field using at least one of each type of allowable character (upper case, lower case, and numerals only). Re-enter the new password in the Verify Password field.

Step 4: Click the Save button to confirm the change.

Note: For Schedule Helper users, you will need to use this new password in order to access that system. For all other users, it is not necessary to remember to password, as it is tied to your myGateway login.

A Service Invocation Failed message keeps displaying when I try to start Banner 9.  

There are a couple of things you can try to resolve that problem:

  • Use Incognito Mode in Chrome to start a new session
  • Clear Cache and Cookies in your browser. Be sure to do both!

My Firefox browser just updated and now buttons on some of my Banner 9 pages aren't working. 
This is a known problem with a fix coming shortly. A workaround for now is to click on the top edges of the button. You may also need to do this with some text hyperlinks as well.

How can I set a custom color scheme? I found the settings page, but my changes aren't working. newicon.jpg
Correct. The developer stated that the custom color scheme is planned for a future release of Banner 9.

In Banner 8, there used to be an area on some pages that displayed the last user to modify data. I don't see it anymore. Where can I find it now? 
Banner 9 displays the "last modified" information at the bottom of the current page, assuming such information existed on the same page in Banner 8. On pages where there are multiple section headers, you will need to make that section active before the "last modified" information displays the proper information.

Shortcuts I use for date entries, such as SYSDATE, no longer work. newicon.jpg
Banner 9 supports the following shortcuts for Date entry:

  • 040119 will convert to 04/01/2019
  • 04012019 will convert to 04/01/2019
  • 4/1/19 will convert to 04/01/2019
  • Any single letter (such as "A", "B", "C" etc) will convert to today's date.

0401 and SYSDATE are no longer valid shortcuts in Banner 9.
