Usually the words “Summer Magic” have a negative connotation throughout the District. District Information Services uses the summer months to improve and prepare our systems for use in the upcoming academic year and so creates a “Summer Magic” that is aimed at improving services to students and staff.

For many years students have requested for us to issue a .edu email to them so that they can take advantage of “freebies” provided by many companies to the holders of a .edu email account. To provide better service to students and to coincide with implementation of the new version of myGateway, the District will begin issuing all students an Office 365 District email address within the @nocccd.edu domain this summer.

The staff directory on the District website has a new look! The directory is organized by departments and includes the employee Name, Job Description, Telephone contact and an envelope Email link. Soon to come will be a District-wide directory searchable by name and department.

NOCCCD is currently implementing a pilot program for a new system called CRMAdvise. This system is designed to “Improve accountability, retention, and student outcomes”. One of the more interesting features of this system is its Early Alert capabilities, which can help “Detect problems promptly and intervene appropriately before students fall behind.”

Ever had the feeling that your car just doesn’t have the traction it used to? Especially during the Southern California winters, I just can’t seem to get the stability and reliability that I once had in my old beater. The darn thing is sliding across the road, narrowly missing pedestrians, street signs, and any number of obstacles on our highways. I mean that thing doesn’t even start half the time and when it does, it just doesn’t have the zip that used to. I’m beginning to think that it’s time to go new car shopping this summer, even though I love the worn out seats, the hand crank windows, and the eight track player in the dashboard.
